Movement literacy is about expanding your repertoire of possible movements. If we were to limit our diet and eat the same few foods every day we could become malnourished. It is important for cellular health that we have a varied diet. We need all of our macro and micro nutrients to remain strong.
Although based upon the principles of Pilates which is more linear in nature, our classes also anchor into this concept of movement variation and variety. Our aim, is to introduce to the body to new ways of moving and thus creating new neural pathways. The outcome of which will provide your body with options and choice in how you move. It also strengthens tissues in all directions and reduces the chance of injury.
“Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life.”
– The International Physical Literacy Association, May 2014
Physical activity is a lot more fun when we’re physically literate. If we want children to be active for life, they need to develop physical literacy at a young age. Physicalliteracy.ca offers coaches, recreation professionals and health practitioners access to a wide range of resources that can help people become physically literate.
